Monday Observation:
Jyoti is a stay at home mother in Singapore. She was married by the age of 20 and had both her children – a son and a daughter – by the age of 22. She spends her weekdays going to the gym for at least 2 hours each day, and running errands for her husband and children. She tries to keep a check on what she eats and does not indulge in sweets too often as she has thyroid and works out everyday to maintain her weight.
Her Monday begins with her waking up in the morning and making breakfast for her family, and making sure that they are ready for work or school. After they have left the house, she leaves the maid with instructions for the day and checks if the maid needs her to buy anything for the house. She then packs her gym bag and heads to the gym where she works out for a couple of hours.
After she finishes with the gym, Jyoti picks up an Iced Coffee from a small stall, and a pretzel and walks around 313@Somerset. She spends time going into the clothing stores, checking the prices for many items but not picking anything up. Jyoti doesn’t like to waste money on clothes when she doesn’t need them. Most of the clothes she picks up are items she is considering showing her daughter later.
After looking around for a couple of hours, Jyoti takes the MRT back home to go and begin cooking dinner for her family. Today she cooks Indian food, which takes her about an hour. As she waits for her husband and children to get home, she sits in front of the TV watching the news or Indian TV shows.
Once she has served dinner, she decided to pick up chocolate as dessert, opting to go to the 7-eleven down the road for M&Ms. She seems to opt for the chocolates which are small and not very rich, as she eats only a few pieces before keeping the packet away for later.
Relationship with Chocolate:
Based on observation and Jyoti’s diary, it can be seen that though she does love chocolate, she tried to control how much she eats it due to her thyroid which leads her to gain weight easily. Most of her time is spent at the gym or running errands for her family and her chocolate purchases are largely based on what her family members prefer.
